The Story of IntegrationAgenda.org

IntegrationAgenda.org is a collaboration between the Institute of Government and Public Affairs of UIC (IGPA), Jane Addams Hull House Association, the Oak Park Regional Housing Center (OPRHC), and MoveSmart.org.

On October 7th, 2008 IGPA and Hull House co-sponsored the conference The Next Forty Years of Fair Housing: Developing an Agenda for Integration in the 21st Century with planning assistance from MoveSmart.org and the Oak Park Regional Housing Center. Our goal was to craft an agenda to renew a commitment to integration, and rather than simply have a series of panel discussions with time for a few hurried questions, we decided to do something different. Nearly a quarter of this day-long event would be spent discussing and drafting an agenda to advance residential racial and ethnic integration: the Integration Agenda. This site grew out of that conference.

This site was built by Justin Massa of MoveSmart.org with special thanks to Jean of Yes We Can & How, Lewis of Wagn.org, and Aaron of ThePoint.com. It is maintained by a group of fantastic fair housing advocates and researchers: Rob Breymaier of OPRHC, Prof. Maria Krysan of IGPA/UIC, Terri Johnson of Hull House, and Massa.

MoveSmart.org is a start-up non-profit organization that fosters vibrant and diverse neighborhoods by empowering housing seekers to move to opportunity. When launched, the site will layer information on neighborhood amenities, quality of life indicators, affordable housing opportunities, and the services and programs of community based organizations over an interactive map. These maps will be complimented by guides, tools, calculators, worksheets, and an innovative social network that will connect new residents with community-based organizations and new neighbors, making MoveSmart.org a one-stop resource for housing seekers looking for a better neighborhood.
